The Hazel Wood | A YA Book Review

The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert

I thought this book was going to be amazing and I was so super pumped for it. Unfortunately, it was nothing like I thought it would be. I didn't like the protagonist (granted her behavior is later explained in a not very surprising plot twist) which always makes it difficult for me. My feelings toward the story went something like this: I like this, I don't like this, I like this, I don't like this, I like this. Maybe it would have been a better narrative in third person, but there was this overarching condescending tone that just didn't sit well with me. The book seemed to end but I see it's part of a series (I pre-ordered it thinking it was a cool dark fairy tale standalone). I most likely will not continue the series. However, the cover and end pages are still gorgeous.
