Gemina (A YA Book Review)

Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff is the mixed media sci-fi sequel to the hit Illuminae. This is the second book in The Illuminae Files trilogy. This story follows a new male/female lead, but no worries if you loved Kady and Ezra as they do make an appearance. This book follows NIk, a drug dealer who's done time, and Hanna, the seemingly spoled-but-not-what-she-seems Commander's daughter who buys drugs from Nik. Despite the dark undertones, Nik is definitely an anti-hero and he was by far my favorite character. AIDAN also makes a reappearnace as Hanna and Nik's ship is taken over and meant to be wiped out. The story is told through instant messages, video surveillance, and a tribunal hearing. It also includes parallel universes and string theory, so what's not to like? Parts were a bit violent, which I don't like, but this book came in at 4 stars for me, mainly because of NIk, Hanna, and NIk's cousin Ella.
