What Is Theme?

What is theme? This vlog explains what theme is and poses the question: Do you plan theme out before writing your story, or do you let it evolve naturally? I tend to let it evolve naturally. After having published three fiction books and one non-fiction book, I find that the same themes seem to surface. Perhaps something bubbling in my subconscious? The world may never know.:)
