A Reflection on Jennifer Kelly
by Kellie Hauer
Jennifer Kelly has passion to inspire and lead students which is why she is a perfect fit as the Lemon Bay High School theatre teacher.
Kelly moved to Englewood when she was four years of age and attended Lemon Bay High School, class of '93, as a teenager. She then went on to Principa College, in Elsah, Illinois for her undergraduate degree and finished up her schooling in a graduate program at Colorado Christian University in Denver, Colorado. After she earned her teaching credentials, she taught in Colorado for three years. She moved back to Englewood with her family and has been the performing arts teacher since 2000. Kelly describes herself as being "extremely passionate about using the arts to develop the mind, body, and soul of teenagers." She feels that the power of the arts help to inspire, transform, heal, unveil, and challenge individuals to discover themselves while developing interpersonal skills that will further them in life.
After eleven years of teaching, seven of which have been at Lemon Bay, Kelly has set many goals for herself. She is the sponsor for the International Thespian Society Troupe 257, and she is also the Theatre District Representative for Southwest Florida. Her goals this year include receiving a "Mainstage" at states with "Thoroughly Modern Millie," to bless thousands of lives with LBHS productions and to network with other professionals throughout the state.
Whenever Kelly gets a spare moment, she loves to spend time with her family, ride horses, swim, read, run, go on adventures, and write poetry. This keeps her very busy at all times.
Kelly is inspired by William Shakespeare's words "Be not afraid of greatness." Perhaps this quote is what motivates her to accomplish all of her notable achievements.
